On our homepage, we say that we try to have a 24 hour turnaround time. On occasion, this can stretch to 48 hours if (a) it’s a holiday (b) the hotel is closed (c) communications equipment is down. Although we work 7 days a week, not everyone at the hotels does, so please be patient and we will get the information for you as soon as possible.
Again, we try for 12-24 hour turnaround but, on occasion, it may take longer. We will be sure to send you updates. Do not make travel plans until you receive a confirmation of reservation from us. On occasion a hotel fills up between the time we receive your reservation request and the time the hotel processes it. Don't forget that our clients are from around the world and we are all on different time zones which may delay the process.
When you make your reservation enquiry, include your credit card details (or fax them to us) and we can make the booking for you immediately, if there is availability. This saves a lot of time.
We will email you a confirmation with dates, price, type of room, hotel's address and phone number, map details to help with driving. You won't need anythig else. Just print off the confirmation and map and you are ready to go.
The cancellation policy for each hotel is different. It is clearly stated on each hotel's page. As long as you are cancelling within the cancellation period, just email us and we will contact the hotel to cancel the reservation for you. You will receive an email from us confirming your cancellation. If you are cancelling outside the cancellation period you need to telephone the hotel direct (you will have the number on your confirmation). It is up to the hotel whether they charge you a cancellation amount, or whether you will forfeit your deposit. Note that Inns en Route will charge a cancellation fee of $15 per room booked if a reservation is confirmed and subsequently cancelled.
Some of our hotels require a deposit only in high season, some always require a deposit, others do not take a deposit. All of these details can be seen on hte hotel page for each hotel. Often the deposit is not refundable if you cancel your reservation outside the permitted cancellation period. All of the information on a hotel's policy will be on that hotel's page on our site. Please read this carefully. The hotel may require you to fax an approval form to them in order to take this deposit - we will always let you know if this is the cas.
We always send you a sketch of a map plus the address and phone number of the inn. On our website you can access a dynamic map from which you can see directions, approximate distances, driving times, etc. However, we also recommend purchasing a good map of the area in which you are travelling.
No, but most do. If there is no dining room or restaurant, this is indicated on that hotel's web page. We advise how far it is to the nearest restaurant on the hotel's page. If you wish to eat in the dining room that night, just tell us - or the innkeeper - in advance. You are never obliged to eat dinner at the hotel.
Yes. Some hotels do not accept Diners or American Express, so let us know if you want to pay using either of these cards. Hotels generally accept Visa or Mastercard.
Star ratings are generally based on amenities and services and certainly not charm. For example a five star hotel may have a swimming pool, spa, restaurant, bar, parking, conference facilities, room service - and very little charm. Our hotels are small, charming and special. Often they will be in the heart of the countryside, or in a pretty garden setting near a town. They may have historical significance, or be architecturally unique. You will always a hospitable host, personal service, a lovely room and a comfortable bed. Do ask us if you have any questions. A three flower inn will be an intimate, attractive, friendly place to stay - and generally won't have a restaurant or swimming pool, conference facilities or bar.
Firstly, ours is a paperless service: everything you should need is on our website. We give full description and information, photographs, map, prices, location. We have clients from around the world and everyone looks at the same information to make an enquiry and reservation online. Secondly, our inns are small and privately-run. The hoteliers prefer to know in advance of the arrival of guests
We represent a diverse group of small, independently-owned inns. While some of the hoteliers may have sophisticated computer systems for keeping track of room availability, others do not. The raison d'etre of Inns en Route websites is to showcase a number of these small, charming inns, to simplify the process of making an enquiry and/or reservation, and send all the relevant information to our clients, usually within twelve hours.
